Veritas Immigration Law Provides Insight on Options After Haitian TPS Ends

Marcus Wobschall Provides Legal Insight as Haitian TPS Ends

Gulf Coast News recently included insight from Marcus Wobschall, immigration attorney with Veritas Immigration Law P.A., in its coverage of concerns within Southwest Florida’s Haitian community following the end of Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Haitian Community - Haitian TPS Ends - Veritas Immigration LawThe report looks at growing fears of increased immigration enforcement and what the change could mean for Haitian families who have built their lives in the United States.

Wobschall explained that the end of TPS doesn’t necessarily mean every person affected has run out of options. Depending on an individual’s circumstances, other immigration pathways may still be available.

“Asylum is still available for people to apply for,” Wobschall told Gulf Coast News. “All the family-based applications are still available. Employers can also sponsor employees for immigration status.”

He also addressed concerns surrounding increased ICE activity in Southwest Florida. Wobschall recommended that residents carry photo identification and clarified an important point for those worried about enforcement: being detained by ICE does not automatically mean someone will be deported.

“Obviously, nobody wants to get detained,” Wobschall said. “But typically, once they detain somebody and they’re holding them, that person will get put into proceedings.”

The Gulf Coast News report also shares the experiences of local Haitian community members who are preparing their families for increased enforcement while trying to understand what comes next.

For individuals affected by the end of TPS, Wobschall’s comments highlight why it’s important to understand whether another immigration option may be available based on their individual situation.
